Visit Us Online!

In these days of social distancing and isolation, our original in-person visits are no longer feasible. Therefore, until further notice, anyone in the world with access to an internet connection and a web browser will be able to visit our museum – via video chat.

We’re available for visits daily from 10am-10pm GMT.

We require a minimum of 24 hours notice.

Want to book your visit? Use the button below, then make sure to pay your admission fee to secure your time slot!

Booking a Group of 3-5 or more? Select the Book Your Online Visit button above and we’ll get back to you with instructions on paying for your visit!

How Do Our Online Visits Work?

There are two options for our Online Visits.

1: One visitor or more visiting from a single location.

2. Multiple visitors in multiple locations visiting simultaneously as a group.

We use Google Meet as our online venue (NOTE: please let us know if you are unable to use Google Meet so we can make alternative arrangements).

Option 1: One Venue
We invite you to a private and secure Google Meet chatroom. You and other members of your household can visit together from a single device.

Option 2: Multiple Venues for Groups
We invite each of your group’s members to a private and secure Google Meet chatroom. Each member of your group can be in a different location – so you can reunite with friends and family around the world while visiting our museum!

Don’t forget to wear headphones if you can, as the sounds will be much clearer if you do!

What To Expect Upon Your Arrival
You will be greeted by our Chief Curator, who conducts our Online Visits in the same room as our Museum Archives, our Physical Objects Collection Exhibition Cabinet, our #ObjectOfTheWeek vitrine, and a bookshelf containing highlights from our Research Library. Any or all of these materials may be referred to during your Online Visit.

Our Director & Chief Curator is available for you!

Our online visitors will experience the same level of access to our staff for the duration of their visit: every single online visitor gets to have an exclusive, private meeting with our Director and Chief Curator!

New: Admission

For more than four years, our Director and Chief Curator has met face to face with each of our visitors, free of charge. That model is no longer sustainable, particularly in the days of Coronavirus. Previous to the outbreak, the only funding the Museum of Portable Sound received came from our Director’s teaching and public speaking engagements – all of which have been cancelled for the foreseeable future (our Gift Shop is also a small source of occasional funding).

Our online visits will therefore cost £10 for a one hour visit, £5 for students. This is not a decision we have taken lightly – if there were any way to fulfil our mission while continuing the Museum of Portable Sound’s long tradition of free admission, we would.

Thank you for your continued support during these troubling times. We look forward to hosting you in an online visit soon – and we hope to be able to see you in person again soon.

While you’re here…

…we need your help. For four years, we have managed to keep admission to the Museum of Portable Sound free for all. But this model hasn’t proven to be sustainable. If you value what we do, and would like to help us continue to fulfil our mission of bringing the culture of sound to the world one visitor at a time, please consider making a donation or supporting us long-term on Patreon.
