The Haunted Museum of Portable Sound is Back!

Saturday 21 October through Wednesday 1 November! A spooky exhibition for adults or families hosted by THE PHANTOM CURATOR.

Our Crypt of Cacophony will be Unlocked Saturday 21 October – Wednesday 1 November 2023!

The master of ceremonies for your visit is the mysterious PHANTOM CURATOR™

The mysterious PHANTOM CURATOR is unlocking the Haunted Museum of Portable Sound once again this year, bringing a host of spooky sounds, scary stories, and terrifying tunes to entertain you this Halloween season!

An Online Exhibition Tailored to the Audience, for Adults or Families…

HEAR THE WORLD’S FIRST RECORDED GHOST STORY!
An Edison wax cylinder recording sits on top of a table inside a spooky looking old house where what appears to be a Victorian ghost holding a lantern stands watching over an unused victrola.
Visitors will hear the first audio recording of a ghost story in the world!

This year’s main attraction is none other than the first audio recording of a ghost story in the world! Earlier this year, our museum acquired its first wax cylinder recording – Edison Gold-Moulded Record 13351, featuring ‘A Christmas Ghost Story’ written and performed by Mr Harry Grattan in November 1905! You’ll be amazed to hear this early sound recording not only includes narration, but atmospheric sound effects that set a spooky supernatural scene (with a twist ending).

LISTEN TO THE (ALLEGED) VOICES OF THE DEAD!
Friedrich Jürgenson
Konstantin Raudive
Raymond Cass

We’ll also include our annual look into the world of EVP – Electronic Voice Phenomenon, a specialty of investigators of the paranormal dating back to 1959 and like Swedish painter Friedrich Jürgenson, Konstantin Raudive (author of the 1970 paranormal classic Breakthrough) and Yorkshire licensed hearing aid technologist Raymond Cass.

CONTACT THE SPIRIT OF ELVIS – IN NORTH LONDON!
The Phantom Curator™ holds the Haunted Museum of Portable Sound's copy of The Elvis Presley Séance, a 1979 LP record documenting a ceremony recorded in London two years after the death of Elvis, the first and only release on Shadow Records.

This year’s Haunted exhibition for adults will include excerpts from The Elvis Presley Séance (1979), deemed by many to be one of the worst records of all time! Recorded in a spiritualist church in north London, you’ll marvel as the spirit of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll speaks through “renowned medium” Carmen Rogers with nondescript messages from beyond the grave!

AND MORE SURPRISES!
The 1973 edition of Disney’s Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House LP record.

For families, we’ve got sounds from the classic Walt Disney sound effects library, a slew of spooky sounds from our Permanent Collection of Sounds, AND EVEN MORE SURPRISES! Every visit is unique, and tailored to your group.
